Magazine Advert and Digipack Construction

For both my Digipack and Magazine advert I used a range of programs. I used; Photoshop CS4, Picassa Editor 3 and Microsoft word . The reason behind the range of programs was due to me wanting to create my designs effectively taking advantage of both the basic programs and the more technical programs. If I could create an effect in Word faster than I could create the same effect in Photoshop which program am I going to choose?

When editing my original imagery I used Picassa 3, this is a free image editor created by Google. The images below evidence how I used the program to edit the CD cover for my Digipack and part of the process that took place. I preferred using this program to Photoshop as it allowed me to experiment with a range of affects in which I would also be able to preview the possible results.

To create my CD, I made it free hand using Microsoft word. This may seem suprising but I found it simple and easy to create. The image on the left evidence part of the process in creating my CD. The template image on the right was created in photoshop and it took me twice as long.

However for adding and editing text on both my Magazine cover and Digipack I used Photoshop as I felt it was the most developed program and provided a crisp and clear outcome for my Final Pieces. To prove this I edited My CD back cover in two programs, one being photoshop. The more sharper more professional cover ( bottom right) was made in Photoshop and the difference between the two is imense.

Final Pieces

Digipak Designs 4 and 5

Using Final Cut- Jake

Using Final CutI used many tools and effects while using final cut.
These include:
The Razor Tool:
During the editing of our video in final cut I used the razor tool to cut the clips smaller if they needed to be after I had set in and out points. This is simply a tool that you hover over where you want to cut it and right click. You can then move or remove what clips you like.

Three Way Colour Wheel:Using the three way colour wheel you can add different shades of colour to the clip to edit it. You can change the overall shade from blues toyellows.

Black and White:
The black and white feature worked perfectly on the narrative part of my video.

Alpha Adjusts:
The alpha adjust pretty much changes the transparency of the clip so you can overlay it over another clip.

ProcAmp:

This allows you to change; The brightness, the contrast, the hue and the saturation. This can be useful if you have a clip that hasn't necessarily been filmed very well.

Circle:Circle allows you to darken the corners of the video or anywhere that you want because you can change the size of the "circle".
Opacity:The opacity once again is a form of changing the transparency and I used it to fade in the title that I created and fade it out again.

Brightness and Contrast:This is different and easier to use than procAmp so I used it where I could.

Slide Tool:The slide tool can be used to drag around the clips you have in your timeline.

Deciding Our Final Digipack and Magazine Advert

When deciding our final pieces for the Ancillary task, me and Jake struggled to decide and agree between us what our final pieces should be. As we both created designs for the Magazine advert and the Digipack we had to then pick and choose between the designs. This left us with a range of options;
  • To get our target audience to vote between our two designs of choice
  • Seeking advice from our Teacher
  • Discussing between ourselves the best suited designs and evaluating them
  • Using all four designs to create two posters and two Digipack, one being a genral album and the second being limited addition
  • Working individually for this part of the project

As a pair we decided to work seperately for this part of our project. As we had both put in the time and effort to produce a wide range of designs, it was a positive thing that we were spoilt for choice. The designs below are Jakes final Digipak and magazine advert.
